Analog Friends AKA Don’t Give up on your dream kids Analog Friends is a collection of photos shot on film and screen prints by myself and some people I am lucky enough to know in person and call friends. I’ve always liked film photography not just because of the look of film but film management really makes you think before snapping the shutter. The number of photos you take is limited by the amount of exposures you have left and I’m notorious for forgetting to bring extra rolls. Screen printing is another analog medium I really like, there are so many variables that affect how a print will come out, combining photography and screen printing has been super fun.

Videography is my profession whereas photography and screen printing are more of a hobby so I wanted too include some friends who are true masters in there fields. I like there work and think you will too. Pete Thompson shot some of the most iconic skate photos from the 90s, which many consider to be the golden era of skateboarding,. HIs documentary and commercial work is top notch and honored to have a few of his photos hanging at Gryphon.

I used to see Jeremy Dean at City Gardens, Club Pizazz and other punk/hardcore staples as well as skate events in the late 80s. Was stoked to learn he is also the man behind @Deansnuts I love the mashups he does with old skate, punk rock and advertising logos.

Ira Ingram aka @curbkiller is one of my favorite humans, travel buddies as well as master lensman and ripping skater. I was on many of the work trips where some of these photos were shot including Malmo and Shanghai.

Badalona Beach There was about a four year stretch where Street League held its first stop in the Beach town of Badalona just outside of Barcelona , Spain. We would walk past those building every morning. I liked the look of it, felt like a remote location even though it was on a pretty busy stretch.

Malmo Sweden Is another place I always wanted to check out and was lucky enough to when the Vans Park Series held a stop there. This is an ice cream shop I skated past while trying to find a DIY skatepark. I like the block patern

Kyungpo Beach Skull South Korea We were in South Korea for the 2018 Pyeonchang Winter Olympics and head about an art show on the beach that was set to be burned at the end. Wasn’t expecting all the peices to be as large as they were. I really liked the color of the water and late day light on skull. One thing you can’t tell is it was pretty windy and super cold.

Shanghai Fishing While in Shanghai for Vans Park Series, legendary photographer Bryce Kanights told me he was taking a small crew out to the SMP skatepark for some photos. The SMP park used to be the largest in the world but still has some of the biggest features of any public skatepark. I didn’t have my board with me so we got a little separated after exiting train station. While trying to find the entrance I walked past this scene, it seemed so peaceful especially for being directly behind one of the largest skateparks in the third largest cities in the world. Shot on a Leica Minilux 35mm

Newark Penn Station I love traveling by train and have crossed through Newark Penn numerous times. On this day the light was really cool and I remembered i had B&W film in the Yashica. This one holds a special place for me as well, i was living in Portland at the time and just finished working Street League in Newark, I was headed into NY for an unofficial lunch “date” with Liane. I would move to New York a couple years later and we got married. Largely due to an event in Newark.

Nature Skated by this on a wall while on my way to LES skatepark. I liked the whales and message, only wish more people shared a concern with nature. Doesn’t all have to be drill baby drill.

The National Forest Hills - Liane and I went to Forest Hills to check out The National and Cat Power, it’s a great place to see an outdoor convcert. I had a 35 mm point and shoot with me and really liked the blue tones in this one, makes you not notice the screen is just showing a solitary microphone

The Henderson High School Years - A few years ago I heard a rumor the current art teacher at Henderson High School discovered a storage closet used to be a darkroom. During my high school years ‘86-’89 photography was my favorite class and the only one I consistently did well in. Around the same time I found a

Superior Ghost screen print- Superiority Burger was my favorite spot in New York, actually one of my favorite restaurants anywhere plus it’s vegetarian and mostly vegan. This is the original location which only sat about 8 people so was primarily take out, it was the best. I shot this on the Yashica a few years before this location closed, the guys sitting out front are the fortune tellers from across the street. I printed a small run with glow in the dark ink, wanted to make it seem like a ghost. If you find yourself in NY go find yourself there.

Les Halles NYC This one got me choked up while taking it, Les Halles is the spot made famous By Anthony Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential. and now was a memorial for his passing. Not all that long before taking this i went though a really rough stretch with anxiety and depression which led tip insomnia. I had a complete mental breakdown while visiting New York, luckily I had really supportive family and friends who helped me navigate and I’m still here today to hang this print. You never know what people are going through

Stevie Williams photo & Roger Browne screen print I hung these two next to each other intentionally. As a young kid growing up in Philly, Stevie saw Roger Browne skating in the neighborhood and was inspired to start skating . On the left is a classic Pete Thompson photo of Stevie skating Love Park in 1994. On the right is a screen print of Roger ruling at Spikes Skates Philly Freeze comp in 1988.
